Italian teachers face uncertainty over school assignments

Italian teachers are facing significant uncertainty as the 2026/2027 school year approaches. The National Coordination of Teachers of Human Rights (CNDDU) has raised concerns regarding the delayed results of interprovincial provisional assignments.

Many educators, particularly those residing in Southern Italy but holding positions in the Center or North, are waiting for assignment outcomes. The delay forces teachers to organize sudden, expensive relocations, with estimated costs for travel and accommodation reaching 400 to 500 euros.

To alleviate this administrative burden, the CNDDU has proposed that Minister Giuseppe Valditara implement a uniform national digital procedure for taking up service using tools like SPID. This would allow for administrative formalities to be completed remotely, while maintaining mandatory in-person attendance for teaching and collegial activities. Additionally, secondary school teachers are required to return by August 24 to finalize bureaucratic tasks, including student evaluations and recovery exams.
