Italy bipartisan proposal seeks 10% increase for war pensions
A bipartisan proposal has been introduced in Italy to increase war pensions by 10% to compensate for lost purchasing power caused by inflation. Presented at the Chamber of Deputies by Giorgio Lovecchio of Forza Italia, the initiative aims to support approximately 31,000 war pensioners, including those wounded by unexploded ordnance from World War II.
Data presented during the conference indicates significant financial hardship among recipients. Approximately 75% of war pensioners receive less than 7,000 euros annually, while 50% receive less than 4,000 euros per year. Proponents argue that current payments have not kept pace with the rising cost of living and that the funds for such an increase are available due to the decreasing number of eligible beneficiaries over time.
