Italy boosts road safety with new speed cameras as A12 accident creates 9‑km jam
Two Autobox 106 speed‑camera units with a tutor function have been installed on the SP 11 road between Niscemi and Priolo in Sicily. Managed by the Libero consorzio comunale di Caltanissetta, the devices monitor average speed over two sections, aim to curb rapid accelerations and unsafe overtaking, and are equipped with laser flash for night operation. They were introduced after the closure of SP 10 and SP 12 by landslides in January, making SP 11 the sole viable link for local traffic.
Separately, an accident at kilometre 11 on the A12 motorway between Recco and Genova Nervi has blocked traffic, creating a 9‑km queue and extending travel times by roughly 40 minutes. Authorities advise drivers to exit at Recco and use the SS1 Aurelia road to bypass the blocked section until clearance operations are completed.
