Italy budget maneuver slowed by limited resources

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti have signaled a slowdown in budget maneuver ambitions due to a lack of available resources. The government is attempting to prioritize a limited number of concrete measures to achieve visible results before upcoming elections, while continuing negotiations with Brussels regarding fiscal flexibility.

Coalition partners have proposed various measures, including flat tax expansions, pension reforms, and tax cuts for the middle class. However, an agreement on 5 billion euros in bank contributions has not been reached. The approval of the budget is expected to be delayed as the administration seeks a balance between political priorities and extremely limited financial margins.

Separately, discussions regarding daylight saving time continue in Italy. While there is a push to maintain permanent daylight saving time to save energy, no European agreement has been reached. Without a unified EU decision, Italy must follow current directives, meaning the clocks will continue to change twice a year, with the next transition occurring in October 2026.
