Italy budget negotiations enter final phase amid emergency amendments

The Italian government has entered the final stages of budget negotiations, with lawmakers preparing for an intensive voting marathon to finalize the financial package. Despite attempts at obstruction by opposition parties, including the Democratic Party and the Five Star Movement, the governing majority has maintained cohesion during recent sessions.

A significant maxi-amendment is expected to be introduced, potentially increasing the resource pool for territorial emergencies from 50 million to approximately 150 million euros. Priority areas for this funding include agriculture, fishing, local government staffing, and reducing medical waiting lists.

Other key provisions under discussion include 8 million euros for rental housing assistance and 16 million euros for installing air conditioning systems in school classrooms.
