Italy celebrates Carlo Collodi bicentenary with Pinocchio exhibitions and festivals

Italy is launching several cultural initiatives to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Carlo Lorenzini, known as Collodi, the creator of Pinocchio.

A dedicated exhibition titled “Pinocchio – Le avventure visive di un burattino” will run from November 1, 2026, to January 10, 2027, at the Museo della Città in Livorno. The showcase features historical illustrations, original plates, paintings, and sculptures exploring the iconographic evolution of the famous puppet. The event is organized by the Municipality of Livorno in collaboration with Aliarte A.p.s. and the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara, with support from the National Carlo Collodi Foundation.

Additionally, the Gran Carnevale di Maiori has announced its 2027 theme, “Collodi Dreaming: 200 years of Magic and Allegories.” The festival, scheduled for February 7 to 14, 2027, will feature papier-mâché floats inspired by the author's works. The event is supported by the National Carlo Collodi Foundation and aims to promote tourism along the Amalfi Coast through this artistic synergy.
