Italy celebrates constitutional history through exhibitions and educational initiatives
Italy is marking the upcoming 80th anniversary of its Constitution and the 1946 institutional referendum through various cultural and educational programs.
In New York, the Italian Cultural Institute has inaugurated two major exhibitions. One, titled ‘1946: nasce la Repubblica. L’Assemblea Costituente a Montecitorio’, uses historical documents and multimedia to trace the transition from the end of World War II to the approval of the Constitution in 1947. Alongside this, the institute is hosting a rare United States exhibition of Caravaggio’s ‘Maddalena in estasi’.
In Giarre, the Fondazione Nuovo Mezzogiorno has announced the 14th edition of the ‘Biagio Andò’ Prize. Titled ‘Educating in Politics to Strengthen Institutions’, the initiative features a series of meetings in secondary schools designed to connect university academics with elected officials. The program aims to promote constitutional literacy and democratic engagement among young people.
