Italy celebrates railway heritage with historic trains and museum events
Sicily is introducing a new program of historic train journeys designed to connect travelers with archaeological sites, natural areas, and artistic towns. Between October 11 and December 20, twelve scheduled trips will depart from various locations, including Palermo, Messina, Catania, Syracuse, and Caltanissetta. Notable routes include trips to Porto Empedocle via the Ferrovia dei Templi on October 25 and December 20, featuring vintage Terrazzini and Centoporte carriages.
In Puglia, the Railway Museum is hosting a theatrical event titled ‘Viaggio nel tempo’ (Journey Through Time). This interactive experience uses actors in period costumes to recreate life in the Salento region from the 1930s to the 1970s. The event showcases historical machinery, such as the 1913 steam locomotive 316 FSE, early electric locomotives, and the ‘Salento Express’ to provide an immersive look at Italian railway history.
