Italy celebrates Sport Day in Muscat to strengthen ties with Oman

The Embassy of Italy in Muscat celebrated the 2026 Italian Sport Day Around the World at the Spike Volleyball Club. The event brought together the Italian community, Omani citizens, and international sports enthusiasts to promote sport as a tool for intercultural dialogue, social inclusion, and solidarity.

The third edition of the initiative focused on boating, sailing, and the sea, serving as a precursor to the America’s Cup Naples 2027, which will be hosted in Italy for the first time. Ambassador Pierluigi D’Elia highlighted the economic importance of the Italian sports sector, noting it generates approximately €32 billion, or 1.5% of Italy's national GDP, and supports around 420,000 jobs.

The celebration also underscored the strengthening sporting ties between Italy and Oman. This cooperation includes the growing presence of Italian football academies in the Sultanate, as well as collaboration in sailing and shooting through the Italian Shooting Federation (FITAV) and the Oman Shooting Association.
