Italy clarifies fair wage standards and implements teacher pay increases
The Italian Council of State has issued a ruling clarifying the legal parameters for a “fair wage” (salario giusto) under Article 36 of the Constitution. Following the principles of Decree-Law 62/2026, starting May 1, 2026, national collective bargaining agreements (CCNL) signed by the most representative organizations will serve as the legal benchmark for determining adequate compensation within a specific sector.
In a separate development regarding the education sector, the Ministry of Education and Merit (MIM) announced that salary increases stipulated in the 2025–2027 CCNL for Education and Research are being implemented. As of the August 2026 paychecks, teachers and ATA staff will see adjustments via the NoiPA system. The average monthly gross increase is approximately 143 euros for teachers and 107 euros for ATA personnel, with back pay for previous periods to be handled through specific disbursements.
