Italy clarifies status of military aid package for Ukraine

Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto has clarified that a reported 13th package of military assistance for Ukraine has not yet been formally adopted. While reports suggested the Meloni government had finalized details for a nearly €3 billion package involving air defense systems like SAMP/T NG, Aster 30 missiles, and long-range radars, Crosetto stated that no formal act has been finalized in 2026.

The government is expected to present the official request to Copasir, the parliamentary security oversight committee, by September. The process will follow the established practice of using an interministerial decree from the Ministries of Defense, Foreign Affairs, and Economy to provide legal coverage for military aid to Ukraine.

In addition to military aid discussions, Copasir is monitoring hybrid threats in Europe, including a recent cyberattack in the United Kingdom that compromised passenger data. There are indications that the National Cybersecurity Agency (Acn) may be called for a hearing to address these security concerns.
