Italy closes sections of SS36 and E45 for emergency road works
The province of Lecco and the municipality of Ballabio will close the SS36 RACC tunnel between Lecco and Ballabio from 09:00 on 7 July until 14:00 on 8 July. The closure, coordinated by the Province, the two municipalities, ANAS and the road police, activates an emergency mobility plan to minimise disruptions, keeping the Milan‑direction interchanges open while diverting traffic at the Manzoni bridge.
Separately, ANAS announced a night‑time closure of the San Giustino viaduct on the E45 in Umbria from 21:00 on 8 July to 06:00 on 9 July. The work, costing €1.2 million, strengthens the bridge against seismic events and involves widening foundations, installing anti‑seismic devices and renewing safety barriers. Motorists will be detoured via secondary roads, with specific re‑entry points at San Sepolcro for north‑bound traffic and the “Piastra Logistica” interchange for south‑bound traffic. Both projects aim to reduce future risks and limit current traffic inconvenience through coordinated diversion routes and temporary restrictions on ramp access.
