Italy commemorates 83rd anniversary of September 1943 WWII events

Various Italian municipalities are holding commemorations to mark the 83rd anniversary of significant military events that occurred in September 1943 during World War II.

In Grottaferrata, ceremonies were held to honor the victims of the Allied bombing that struck the area and neighboring municipalities following the Armistice of Cassibile. Local authorities, including Prefect Filippo Santarelli, participated in wreath-laying ceremonies at Palazzo Consoli and the Squarciarelli inscription to remember the civilian and military casualties.

In Capaccio Paestum, the town is preparing for Memory Day at Torre di Mare to commemorate Operation Avalanche, the Allied landing on the beaches of Paestum and the Gulf of Salerno. The event will honor both Allied military personnel and the local civilian population. Expected attendees include U.S. Consul General Terence Flynn and representatives from the Oklahoma National Guard, maintaining a historical link to the 45th Infantry Division.
