Italy commemorates 84th anniversary of El Alamein battles

Italian Undersecretary of State for Defence Isabella Rauti participated in a ceremony at the Italian Military Memorial in El Alamein, Egypt, to mark the 84th anniversary of the Battles of El Alamein.

Accompanied by the Italian Ambassador to Egypt, Agostino Palese, and General Andrea Rispoli, Rauti emphasized the importance of preserving military shrines as part of the ‘Culture of Defence’ and national identity. During the event, a battle beret belonging to the late Corporal Major Antonio Tomba, a veteran of the 32nd Tank Regiment, was donated by his family to the memorial museum.

The ceremony also highlighted ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Defence and diplomatic authorities to protect the monumental complex from urban development and tourism projects in North Africa.
