Italy commemorates Enrico Mattei on 64th anniversary of death

Various Italian communities held ceremonies to honor Enrico Mattei, the founder of Eni, marking the 64th anniversary of his passing.

In Matelica, commemorations included a conference titled “The Mattei Method: cooperation, development and opportunities for Marchigian companies in Africa.” The event focused on international cooperation, the growth of the African continent, and the Mattei Plan, exploring how his historical approach to shared growth and dialogue can inform modern economic challenges and internationalization for local businesses. Official ceremonies also included a memorial Mass and the laying of a laurel wreath at his grave.

In San Donato Milanese, the community held a solemn procession led by the city banner to the Primo Palazzo Uffici, the historical headquarters of the energy group. Local authorities, religious figures, and Eni representatives gathered at the commemorative bust of Mattei to honor his industrial, social, and managerial legacy. The event included a Mass at the Santa Barbara church and a formal blessing of the monument.
