Italy competes in 2026 World Championships for wrestling and gymnastics

Italy is participating in several major international sporting events in 2026. In Astana, Kazakhstan, the Italian wrestling team will be represented by a limited squad of three athletes: Luca Dariozzi (82 kg) and Danila Sotnikov (130 kg) in Greco-Roman wrestling, and Benjamin Honis (97 kg) in freestyle. This reduced presence follows a strategic decision by the federation, as the event does not directly impact qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, and the women's sector will not be represented.

In Rotterdam, Netherlands, the Italian women's artistic gymnastics team has qualified for the team final at the 2026 World Championships. After finishing fourth in the preliminary round behind China, the USA, and Russia, the team—including Manila Esposito, Elisa Iorio, Giulia Perotti, July Marano, and Sofia Tonelli—will compete for a podium spot on Wednesday, October 21. Unlike the wrestling event, this gymnastics competition offers three qualification spots for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
