Italy conducts seismic risk drills and restoration tours

Four municipalities in Italy—Eboli, Campagna, Serre, and Postiglione—conducted the ‘EXE S-QUADRA SELE 2026’ earthquake drill as part of the National Civil Protection Week. The exercise simulated various emergency scenarios, including the collapse of a cathedral facade in Campagna’s historic center. The drill involved multiple agencies, including the Firefighters, Alpine and Speleological Rescue, the Carabinieri Cultural Heritage Protection Unit, and the Italian Red Cross, to test inter-municipal coordination and emergency response procedures.

In the Abruzzo region, the Ministry of Culture is organizing free guided tours of ongoing and completed restoration sites in Teramo, Capitignano, and Isola del Gran Sasso. These tours, part of a national program to assess reconstruction efforts in the Central Italy earthquake crater, mark ten years since the 2016 earthquake. The initiative aims to provide public insight into the complex technical work required to restore architectural heritage and historical memory in the provinces of L’Aquila and Teramo.
