Italy contributes 33% to European defense missions, says Crosetto

Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto stated during a parliamentary hearing that Italy provides 33% of the total personnel, assets, and equipment for all European defense missions. He noted that the next three largest contributors would be required collectively to match Italy's level of involvement.

Crosetto also addressed the recent Houthi attack on the Taif base in Saudi Arabia. He confirmed that the safety of Italian military personnel remained uncompromised. According to the Minister, the Houthis declared that the damage to an Italian aircraft was not an intentional target, as they do not consider themselves at war with Italy.

While the base utilizes multi-layered protection, Crosetto acknowledged that zero risk cannot be guaranteed against small, slow-moving threats. Consequently, additional security measures have been implemented to protect all assets, particularly aircraft.
