Italy reports 1.8% decrease in total reported crimes for 2025

Italy has recorded a 1.8% decrease in reported crimes in 2025, totaling approximately 2.36 million incidents. This marks the first decline after four consecutive years of growth. The reduction is primarily driven by a significant drop in thefts, which fell below one million for the first time since 2022, including a 16.2% decrease in thefts from parked cars.

Despite the national trend, crime dynamics vary significantly by region and city. Major urban centers like Milan, Florence, and Rome remain the areas with the highest crime incidence. In contrast, several regions like Sicily and parts of Calabria have seen notable improvements, with many provinces reporting fewer reported crimes.

While traditional predatory crimes such as robberies and thefts are declining, other categories are on the rise. There is a marked increase in cyber-related crimes, including digital fraud and scams, as well as rising reports of property damage and physical assaults. Additionally, reports involving crimes committed by minors have seen a significant increase.
