Italy cycling routes highlight historical paths in Tuscany and Lombardy

Various cycling itineraries are highlighted across Italy, focusing on historical and scenic routes in Tuscany and Lombardy.

In Tuscany, the Merse Valley offers a 22-kilometer cycling route through the Antica Via Maremmana. This historic pastoral path, used for centuries during seasonal livestock movements, connects Siena to the Tyrrhenian coast. The route features the roofless Cistercian Abbey of San Galgano, a significant landmark where nature and man-made ruins intersect.

In the Cremona region of Lombardy, summer cycling suggestions include a flat path along the Po river toward the walled village of Pizzighettone and the murals of Crotta d’Adda. Other recommended destinations include the hydraulic landscape of Tombe Morte in Genivolta and a ride to Villa Sommi-Picenardi in Torre de’ Picenardi.
