Italy debates migration management and new repatriation center

Italy is facing ongoing debates regarding migration management, highlighted by the planned construction of a new Repatriation Center (CPR) in Castel Volturno. The project, which follows a tender for approximately 41 million euros, has drawn criticism for its focus on confinement and its symbolic role in the government's tightening migration policies.

In a separate assessment of migration trends in Northeast Italy, Caritas and Migrantes of Triveneto released a document arguing that migration should not be treated as a temporary emergency but as a permanent social reality. The report emphasizes the need to address practical challenges such as housing for both migrants and local youth, and the labor market's demand for workers. The document calls for a shift away from conflict-oriented rhetoric and toward a long-term approach that integrates migration with education, healthcare, and territorial development, while noting concerns regarding the implementation of the new European Pact on Migration and Asylum.
