Italy Deploys 6,800 Troops to Secure Stations as Verona‑Vicenza High‑Speed Line Nears Opening

The Italian Ministry of Defence, represented by Sub‑Secretary Isabella Rauti, has confirmed that about 6,800 military personnel from the Army and other armed forces are deployed across nearly 60 cities and a dozen major railway stations under the “Strade Sicure” and “Stazioni Sicure” programmes. The presence of troops is coordinated with the Railway Police and other police forces and is adjusted throughout the day according to passenger flows, ensuring continuous security without interrupting station operations.

Separately, the Verona‑Vicenza segment of the high‑speed line has completed track laying and is undergoing final tests before opening. The work, part of the PNRR railway plan, was carried out by the IRICAV consortium, with civil works by Webuild and signalling and ERTMS installation by Hitachi Rail. The line meets the June 30 deadline, and successful trials will allow passenger and freight services to resume at full speed, improving connectivity between Verona and the Mediterranean corridor.
