Agile Lab hosts conference on AI and digital sovereignty in Rome

The conference “Artificial Intelligence and Sovereignty: the alternative is possible,” promoted by Agile Lab, a data engineering company of the Poste Italiane group, was held at the Scuola Superiore di Polizia in Rome. The event brought together representatives from public administration, regulatory authorities, and various domestic and international industrial players.

Speakers emphasized that digital sovereignty for Europe requires maintaining control and designing ready-to-use alternatives. Alberto Firpo noted that AI involves a complex stack of dependencies, including capital, rare earths, chips, cloud services, models, and regulations. Participants discussed the need for Europe to go beyond merely hosting data and instead build systems that allow for the extraction of value from it.

Italian officials, including Salvatore Deidda and Alessandro Giglio Vigna, highlighted Italy's movement toward digital sovereignty and the importance of an expanded, secure supply chain based on shared national cultures and values.
