Italy emergency services manage wildfire and flood risks
Civil protection and emergency services in Italy are actively managing environmental risks through monitoring and rapid response. In Sarno, volunteers from the “I Sarrastri” Civil Protection unit identified a fire in an uncultivated area on Via Bracigliano. The quick alert allowed firefighters to extinguish the flames and secure the area, preventing further spread.
In the Ancona region, heavy rainfall triggered yellow alerts. Despite concerns regarding the Aspio torrent and flood-prone areas like Baraccola and Candia, the drainage systems held, and the Aspio remained within its banks, avoiding the severe flooding seen during Cyclone Boris in September 2024. Traffic delays were reported, but no major injuries or significant flooding occurred.
Additionally, in the Conero Park, the Nucleo Operativo Aereo of Recanati (Noa) is utilizing advanced drone technology for wildfire prevention. These drones use thermal imaging to detect heat anomalies from the air, allowing pilots to transmit real-time coordinates to operational rooms for immediate intervention.
