Italy expands electric bus procurement through national and regional tenders

Italy is advancing significant investments in electric public transportation through both regional and national initiatives. In Bolzano, Sasa SpA has launched a public tender to acquire up to 57 electric buses to renew the local fleet. This move is part of a broader strategy to introduce approximately 120 eco-friendly vehicles, including battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell models, by 2031. The project is supported by a 71.5 million euro allocation from the Autonomous Province of Bolzano.

On a national level, Consip has established a framework agreement for the supply of 600 electric buses, valued at over 650 million euros. The procurement is divided into several lots. For the first lot, which includes 30 five-meter minibuses and 40 six-meter urban buses, companies such as Pagliani-Basco, Karsan, Dierre Dimensione Ricambi, and Tecnobus have been identified through the ranking process. The framework allows top-scoring companies to secure larger quantities of vehicles through a pre-emption system.
