Italy expands #ioleggoperché reading campaign to include nurseries nationwide

The #ioleggoperché reading initiative, run by the Associazione Italiana Editori (AIE), will open its national book‑collection campaign to all infant‑care centres for children aged 0‑3 across Italy. Starting 1 September 2026, nurseries can register for the programme, which will run a nationwide book‑gathering drive from 7 to 15 November. The expansion follows a four‑year pilot, #ioleggoperché Lab‑Nidi, funded by Fondazione Cariplo and tested in Lombardy, Novara and Verbano‑Cusio‑Ossola, where up to 350 nurseries participated.

Campaign supporters say the effort boosts early language, cognitive and social skills and strengthens families’ educational role. Giovanni Azzone, president of Fondazione Cariplo, highlighted the project’s community impact. In parallel, the municipality of Jonadi announced it will reimburse 100 % of nursery fees paid in August, reinforcing local commitment to early‑childhood education.
