Italy expands primary care roles and launches home‑care projects for over‑80s

The Sicilian health authority has reorganised primary care by establishing 14 territorial functional aggregations within community health centres (ASP). Each aggregation will be overseen by a designated general practitioner who will coordinate organisation, monitoring and integration of services across the local area.

Agenas has approved 58 large‑scale projects to deliver home‑based care for roughly 60,000 Italians aged 80 and over, backed by €150 million from the national recovery plan. The initiative will use telemedicine, remote monitoring, family nurses and digital tools to keep seniors in their homes, reduce hospital admissions and combat isolation.
