Italy expands regional vaccination access through pharmacies and local health services
In Italy, regional health authorities are expanding vaccination access for elderly citizens. In Puglia, Federfarma Puglia and the regional government have reached an agreement to allow pharmacies to administer influenza, anti-Herpes Zoster, and anti-Pneumococcus vaccines. The initiative, supported by 370,000 euros, allows pharmacies to participate on a voluntary basis, including those in rural areas. Once ratified by the regional council, a mapping of participating pharmacies will be available via the Puglia Salute portal.
In the Emilia-Romagna region, specifically within the Modena area, the local health authority (Ausl) is contacting individuals turning 65 in 2026 to offer free vaccinations against Herpes Zoster and Pneumococcus. These vaccinations are free for those aged 65 to 74. Residents can receive shots at designated public health clinics, through their general practitioners, or at participating pharmacies and certain supermarket health corners.
