Italy expands road safety initiatives for young drivers with new training site and nightlife agreement

The regional government of Piemonte has relocated the "Guida sicura per neopatentati" driver‑training program to the Stellantis Orbassano Proving Ground in Orbassano while a permanent facility is being built in Buttigliera Alta. The temporary site passed a technical inspection and can accommodate up to 2,500 participants; 1,936 young drivers aged 18‑29 have already enrolled, with 564 spots remaining. Each participant pays a €48.72 fee and receives both classroom instruction and practical exercises aimed at preventing accidents.

In a separate move, a historic agreement was signed in Italy involving the Ministry of the Interior (Minister Piantedo), the Polizia di Stato, insurance companies, discotheque owners and beach managers. The pact seeks to curb road deaths among youths by promoting responsible drinking and driving, distributing safety leaflets at nightclubs and seaside venues, and increasing police checks in nightlife hotspots. Officials described the initiative as a long‑term, multi‑sector effort to change driver culture rather than rely on new legislation.
