Italy expands Universal Civil Service through regional youth initiatives

Various regions in Italy are expanding the reach of the Universal Civil Service through new youth volunteer initiatives. In Palermo, the city administration has officially joined the national system for the first time. Sixty-six young volunteers have begun working across municipal offices on three primary projects: social inclusion and support for vulnerable groups, the protection and promotion of historical and cultural heritage, and environmental sustainability and democratic participation.

In Tuscany, the ‘Primi passi’ project has launched in the provinces of Prato and Poggio a Caiano. Managed by the Alambicchi social cooperative, this initiative places four volunteers in early childhood socio-educational services to assist educators in nurseries. This local effort is part of a broader regional commitment involving 45 young people participating in Universal Civil Service projects across Tuscany to support community well-being and professional development.
