Italy expands university student housing in Lazio and Abruzzo

Italian regions Lazio and Abruzzo are expanding university housing availability through the national university housing plan, supported by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

In the Lazio region, nearly 10,000 additional beds are being allocated. Regional Councilor Luisa Regimenti stated that 5,000 beds are already prepared, with the remaining capacity becoming available in the next academic year. This initiative aims to increase the attractiveness of local universities and support the right to study.

In Abruzzo, the plan provides for 2,560 additional student beds. Of these, 1,458 positions are already ready for use. This expansion is intended to alleviate pressure on the private rental market and assist families facing high housing costs, particularly in academic hubs and areas like the province of Teramo.
