Italy experiences growth in outdoor tourism and recreational vehicle markets
Italy is experiencing a significant rise in outdoor and itinerant tourism. In the Sila region, foreign tourists increased by 30% between June and September. Daniele Donnici, president of Destinazione Sila, noted a shift toward qualitative growth, with increased average stays and a rising interest in wellness and slow tourism. The region has seen expanded services in agritourism, bed and breakfasts, and outdoor activities such as e-biking and equestrian centers.
Nationally, the recreational vehicle market is showing strong momentum. Between January and April, new recreational vehicle registrations in Italy reached 4,050 units, a 14.96% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. This growth outpaces the European average of 10% for the same period. The trend is driven by demand for compact vans and campers, as well as traditional motorhomes for families, reflecting a broader shift toward sustainable and freedom-oriented travel habits.
