Italy experts address rise in youth violence and neo-fascist trends
Experts are analyzing a rise in violent incidents involving minors in Italy, including a stabbing of a teacher in Rome and a foiled attack in Lamezia Terme. These events have highlighted growing concerns regarding neo-fascist ideologies and the influence of digital platforms on adolescent behavior.
Psychiatrist Paolo Crepet addressed the emergence of neo-fascist groups among minors, describing them as “children of these times of hate” who reproduce existing societal models. He noted a resurgence in narratives of white male supremacy and suggested that public consensus or lack of condemnation contributes to the phenomenon.
Criminologist and psychotherapist Luca Dinatale commented on the role of technology in these incidents, stating that while technology does not create violence, it acts as a “powerful amplifier of existing fragilities.” He noted that the desire for an online audience can turn violent acts into spectacles, providing vulnerable adolescents with both a platform and models to emulate.
