Fabio Fatuzzo reappointed as Italy's water purification commissioner

The Italian government has extended the mandate of Fabio Fatuzzo as the sole extraordinary commissioner for water purification and reuse for an additional three years. The decree, signed on September 14, 2026, by Undersecretary Alfredo Mantovano, also extends the terms of sub-commissioners Salvatore Cordaro and Antonino Daffinà for the same duration.

The decision aims to ensure administrative continuity for critical infrastructure projects, specifically to accelerate sewage and purification works required to address European Union infringement procedures.

A major focus of this mandate includes the new sewage and purification system in Augusta, a project funded with over 69 million euros that has been awaited for decades. Following the signing of a contract with the designated company on August 6, the project is moving into its operational phase, which includes restoring the existing Punta Cugno plant and upgrading the city's sewage network.
