Italy faces challenges in environmental awareness and sustainable consumption
Recent reports highlight significant challenges regarding environmental awareness and sustainable consumption in Italy. Data from Erion Care indicates that 64% of cigarette butts smoked in public spaces in Italy are disposed of improperly. Despite increased fines reaching up to 866 euros, approximately 40% of Italians remain unaware of these specific penalties for littering.
Additionally, a civic report on sustainable consumerism by Cittadinanzattiva reveals a gap between environmental concern and action. While 65.6% of citizens view environmental issues as an emergency, 58.7% cite the high cost of sustainable products as the primary obstacle to responsible consumption. The report also notes difficulties in navigating consumer rights, such as product repair and waste management systems, alongside concerns regarding greenwashing and the need for stricter regulations on misleading environmental claims.
