Italy faces social emergency and industrial disputes in Sicily
The Regional Observatory of Poverty has issued an urgent appeal to institutions regarding increasing social emergencies in Italy. President Antonio Belmonte highlighted a specific case of a family living in inhumane conditions within a warehouse after losing stable housing and facing irregular, unprotected seasonal work.
Separately, the A2A industrial dispute has returned to the Sicilian Regional Commission. Mario La Malfa, the mayor of Pace del Mela, testified requesting a national table for the Valle del Mela and a clear industrial plan from A2A. The dispute involves concerns over the future of the thermoelectric plant, with local leaders warning that the region risks losing over 500 jobs and 500 million euros in investment.
