Italy film market sees significant box office growth
The Italian film market is experiencing a significant resurgence, with box office revenues reaching 422.9 million euros and attracting 55.3 million spectators so far this year. This represents a 46% increase in revenue and a 36% increase in attendance compared to the same period in 2025. The summer season specifically saw a major boost, collecting 149.5 million euros between June and August, nearly doubling the previous year's summer performance.
While international franchises like ‘Odissea’, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, and ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ dominate the commercial landscape, domestic productions have also grown by 14%, totaling 94.5 million euros. Success for Italian cinema has been bolstered by hits such as Checco Zalone’s ‘Buen Camino’.
On a local level, outdoor cinema initiatives are also seeing high engagement. In Milan, the Cineteca Milano summer series ‘Tutto il bello del cinema’ at Castello Sforzesco drew over 18,000 spectators between August 1 and August 25. The free event expanded its capacity from 500 to 1,000 seats to meet demand, featuring classic titles such as ‘Casablanca’ and ‘Blade Runner’.
