Italy finishes asbestos removal at ex Albergo Roma as Rai case dismissed
The asbestos‑capped roof of the historic ex Albergo Roma in Riva del Po, Ferrara, has been fully removed after years of local campaigning. The work, completed by municipal authorities in cooperation with the National Asbestos Association (ANMIL) and praised by mayor Daniela Simoni and ANMIL president Alberto Alberti, ends a long‑standing remediation effort that began with a 2016 popular petition.
Separately, the Rome public prosecutor’s office has asked a court to archive the investigation into the release of asbestos fibres at the Rai headquarters on Viale Mazzini after a water leak on 17 December 2024. Prosecutors concluded that there is insufficient evidence to identify any individuals liable, leaving the incident without criminal accountability and raising concerns about workplace safety in public buildings.
