Flag Football World Championships begin with victories for Italy

The 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships in Düsseldorf have commenced with significant results for several national teams. The Italian women’s team secured a narrow 27-26 victory over Slovenia, a comeback fueled by a late touchdown from Alice Fimiani and a crucial interception by Chiara Peroni. The Italian men’s team also earned a win, defeating Great Britain 22-12.

Great Britain’s women’s team saw success in their opening matches, defeating France 33-14 and narrowly beating China 26-25. However, the Great Britain men’s team suffered losses against both Italy and France.

In the Austrian women’s division, the national team faces a quarterfinal matchup against Canada following a 26-47 loss to Great Britain in their final group stage game.
