Italy flags AI risks for journalism and calls for better corporate AI training
At a conference organized by the Trentino‑Alto Adige journalist union in the Senate on 16 June 2026, union secretary Alessandra Costante described the relationship between artificial intelligence and information as “complex and uneven” and insisted that “l’informazione deve essere fatta da esseri umani” (information must be made by human beings). The event presented the Bolzano Charter on AI and information, calling for transparency, algorithmic oversight and protection of journalists’ roles.
A separate research project by Intesa Sanpaolo and Luiss University, released through the Look4ward Observatory, surveyed more than 600 Italian companies. It found AI adoption had risen to 31%, yet only 19% of firms have structured AI‑training programmes and 46% of employees received no specific AI instruction. Many companies plan no near‑term investment in training. The study proposes a “GENIALE EDUNext” model to balance human and AI learning in workplaces.
