Italy focuses on Community Houses for integrated healthcare

Healthcare professionals in Italy are emphasizing the evolving role of 'Case di Comunità' (Community Houses) as central hubs for integrated medical and socio-assistance. Under the framework of the PNRR Mission 6 and DM 77 of 2022, these institutions aim to standardize territorial assistance across the country, moving beyond previous models to create a more cohesive organizational and cultural approach to proximity care.

In Bari, a recent training course focused on the role of single-role general practitioners (RUAP) within these community hubs. The training specifically addressed the prevention and diagnosis of osteoporosis, a chronic condition affecting over 30% of individuals aged 74 and older. Experts noted that early intervention and the use of technologies like REMS are strategic for preventing fragility fractures, which significantly impact healthcare costs and caregiver burdens.
