Italy focuses on DOP Economy and agricultural tourism growth
The Italian agricultural and wine sectors are focusing on strengthening Geographical Indications (GI) and integrating production with tourism. Mauro Rosati, director of Fondazione Qualivita and Origin Italia, has introduced the concept of ‘DOP Economy’ to highlight how quality food products can generate culture and community. Rosati emphasizes the need for stronger governance within Consortia and a culture of ‘coopetition’ to address global challenges.
In support of these sectors, the ColtivaItalia measure—a provision exceeding one billion euros awaiting Senate approval—aims to reinforce agricultural supply chains. This initiative seeks to expand opportunities for enotourism and oleotourism, allowing high-quality denominations to serve as gateways to regional landscapes, gastronomy, and cultural heritage.
