Italy strengthens cybersecurity and innovation through public-private partnerships

Italy is seeing a significant focus on cybersecurity and technological innovation through various institutional and private sector initiatives. At the Ciso Meetup 2026 in Rome, leaders emphasized the need for strengthened public-private partnerships to protect critical national infrastructure. Franco Gabrielli, director of the postal police and cyber security service, and Lorenzo Guerini, president of Copasir, both highlighted that growing geopolitical tensions and evolving digital threats require coordinated efforts between the state and private enterprises to ensure national resilience.

Cybersecurity experts noted that threats are evolving rapidly, with artificial intelligence being used to enhance phishing and deepfake attacks. Vulnerability exploitation and supply chain risks have become primary vectors for breaches, necessitating more robust defense strategies.

Simultaneously, innovation remains a central theme in Italian economic and academic circles. The ‘Sette idee’ festival in Milan showcased nearly 100 startups, highlighting the city's role as a hub for knowledge and research. Discussions at the event, including remarks from University of Milan Rector Marina Brambilla, focused on balancing rapid technological progress with social inclusion and the practical application of research to drive industrial competitiveness.
