Italy funds agrobiodiversity research and grants for agricultural events

The Lombardy regional government will allocate €714,475 to support five research projects aimed at preserving and valorising the region's agricultural genetic heritage. The projects, led by the University of Milan and the National Research Council, target the recovery of the endangered Articiok artichoke, the conservation of the native Oca di Lomellina goose, the study of chestnut biodiversity, the creation of a microbial collection for dairy, vine, apple and corn production, and the protection of local turkey breeds.

Separately, Italy's Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests (MASAF) has announced a new grant programme for 2026‑2027, providing up to €40,000 per project (covering 50 % of eligible costs) to public, non‑profit entities that organise free events showcasing Italian agricultural, food, wine, forest and fishery excellence. The scheme, funded with €3 million, is open to public bodies, recognised associations, organising committees and social cooperatives, but excludes individuals and commercial companies.
