Italy gambling participation reaches 31.9% of population

According to a new report from Istat, nearly one in three Italians aged 14 and older participated in games involving cash prizes in 2024. This represents approximately 16.6 million people, or 31.9% of the population.

Scratch cards (Gratta e Vinci) are the most popular form of gambling, used by 25.1% of the population. Other significant categories include traditional lotteries at 16.5%, Superenalotto at 13.8%, and sports betting at 4.7%. Other activities such as bingo, slot machines, and casino games account for smaller percentages of participation.

The data also highlights a gender gap in participation, with men showing a higher engagement rate at 37.8% compared to women at 26%.
