Two dead after gyrocopter hits cableway in Italy's Antrona Valley
A two-seat gyrocopter crashed in the Antrona Valley, Piedmont, killing both occupants on Wednesday morning. The aircraft, which had departed from the Megolo airfield, struck the service cables of an Enel material cableway near the Campliccioli dam at an altitude of approximately 1,400 meters.
The collision caused the aircraft to catch fire mid-air before it plummeted into a steep area near the dam. The victims have been identified as 62-year-old pilot and owner Alessandro Angelo Muscinelli and his 63-year-old sister-in-law, Antonella Pagliarani.
Witnesses, including the local mayor and the pilot's brother, observed the crash. Emergency response teams, including mountain rescue and helicopter units, were deployed to the difficult terrain, but the occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities, including the Verbania Prosecutor's Office, are investigating the cause of the collision and whether the flight had the necessary permits for the protected area.
