Italy halts Monte San Pacifico wind farm project

The Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security (MASE), in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, has issued a definitive stop to the ‘Energia Monte San Pacificowind farm project. The project, proposed by Fred. Olsen Renewables Italy S. r. l., planned to install seven wind turbines with a total capacity of 36.0 MW across the municipalities of San Severino Marche, Serrapetrona, Castelraimondo, and Camerino.

Decree n. 510 expressed a negative judgment regarding the project's environmental compatibility, environmental impact assessment, and excavation plans. The decision follows negative opinions from the PNRR-PNIEC Technical Commission and the Ministry of Culture. The Technical Commission noted that the project's significant impacts and severe information deficiencies could not be mitigated through prescriptive measures to limit negative environmental effects.

The ruling concludes a lengthy administrative process involving local participation and efforts by the San Severino Marche administration to protect the local landscape and ecosystem.
