Italy health initiatives focus on Parkinson's caregivers and dementia support

In Italy, health organizations are intensifying efforts to support those affected by neurodegenerative diseases. Fondazione LIMPE per il Parkinson has launched a free online course designed to provide practical advice for caregivers. The initiative aims to address the physical and psychological toll of caregiving, which a study published in Neurological Sciences indicates affects two out of three caregivers.

Research involving 478 caregivers revealed that 74% provide assistance daily, yet only 9% have received specific training. The course covers topics such as managing motor and emotional symptoms, nutrition, physical activity, and legal rights.

Simultaneously, ASL CN2 held an information session in Alba to mark World Dementia Month. The event focused on dementia prevention, early diagnosis, and available local services. To complement pharmacological treatments, the Centro Disturbi Cognitivi e Demenze (CDCD) is running a pilot project providing free psychoeducational and psychosocial support in Verduno, Alba, and Bra, including cognitive stimulation and psychological support.
