ViiV Healthcare launches HIV treatment adherence initiative
ViiV Healthcare Italia has launched ‘Aderenza in Hiv’, a new digital section dedicated to therapeutic adherence and continuity of care for people living with HIV. The initiative aligns with the UNAIDS Global AIDS Strategy 2026–2031, which aims to end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030 by improving treatment access and adherence.
Experts emphasize that long-acting therapies are crucial for maintaining regular and precise treatment schedules, reducing the daily psychological burden of managing a chronic illness. Stefano Rusconi, an infectious disease specialist, highlighted the need for a holistic approach that considers the patient as an individual with social and professional needs, rather than just a clinical case.
Research presented in the launch indicates that approximately 50% of surveyed patients in Italy report occasional missed doses, though most occur less than once a month. The platform aims to bridge the gap between international scientific recommendations and the real-world experiences of both clinicians and patients.
