Italy healthcare agencies face medical supply distribution issues
Healthcare authorities in Italy are facing criticism over the management and distribution of medical supplies for incontinence. In Naples, the association Abaco Campania has issued a formal warning to the Asl Napoli 1 and the regional government regarding a 91-year-old bedridden patient. Although a physiotherapist prescribed 60 diapers per month, the health agency has provided only approximately 37 per month. The association warns that this insufficiency poses a serious health risk, including the potential development of pressure sores.
Asl Napoli 1 responded by stating that patients can choose different types of products within a prescribed daily allowance, noting that choosing more expensive items may result in a lower total quantity provided due to fixed budget constraints.
In a separate incident in Cosenza, a patient reported receiving female-specific incontinence products instead of the male-specific aids prescribed by a urologist following surgery. The patient had applied for these supplies through the Asp di Cosenza to mitigate the high costs of private purchases.
